Floral Emblem Rain Painting Sculpture - Yellow Hibiscus

“Floral Emblems” is an ongoing art project with a goal of creating 50 unique sculptural paintings, representing the state flower of each one of the United States. This project is an exploration of human connection to the natural world, ecological identity, and the unity that connect the country’s diverse natural landscapes

The sculptures are created by applying various materials to a canvas outdoors in the rain. These canvases are dried, cut and stretched over flower petal shapes to form the final “floral sculptures” - these paintings are an ongoing, active collaboration and connection with the natural world. The rain leaves behind texture, movement, and memory as a silent collaborator. A reminder that what surrounds us is often more powerful and important than what pulls us in.
